After an independent visit to the permanent exhibition (recommended duration about 2 hours), groups will go to the Documentation Centre's film screening room. First of all, there will be an introduction to the film topic, and the groups will be allocated various tasks. After the screening, the film will be talked about in a moderated discussion and put in its historic context.
(D 1934, 104 min., director: Leni Riefenstahl)
"Triumph of Will", the Nazi propaganda film in which Leni Riefenstahl created a condensed artistic view of the events during the 1934 Nuremberg Nazi Party Rally, was at the time shown all over Germany with the intention of creating mass enthusiasm for the National Socialist regime. Today, it is a so-called "film under reservation", which means that in Germany, it may only be screened accompanied by a scientific comment. The discussion will therefore analyse the style of the film and the effect of its imagery, and the question will be raised whether the existing reservations for screening are justified.
The discussion may also be held in English.
