Three hundred years ago, the educationalist Comenius commented on the development opportunities for each human being: "Teach everybody everything!"
The exhibition shows how, throughout the centuries, school education has given important encouragement, but has sometimes also overtaxed or bored students. Exhibits shown include crib sheets, little notes clandestinely passed on between school students below the desk, as well as Nobel laureates' copy books and "Schultüten" - conical bags of sweets given to pupils on their first day at school - from 1930. Today's pupils attending a Nuremberg secondary modern school (Realschule) explain describe how they cope with the increasing pressure to do well. Students from the 16th and 19th century explain how school education helped them overcome social obstacles.
