So-called Huitzilopochtli, Aztec goldsmiths' work, 2nd half of the 16th century.

Increasingly, the Paintings and Sculpture Collection has taken part in national and international art exchange schemes, and is happy to provide other museums with exhibits for important exhibitions.

In recent years, objects have been lent to Mainz, Bonn, Münster, Munich, Bremen, Berlin, Cologne, Aachen, Essen, Dresden, Frankfurt, Magdeburg, Kiel and Vienna, London, Washington, New York, Tokyo, New Delhi, Bombay, Strasburg, Prague, Warsaw, Los Angeles and St. Louis, as well as Paris.

Loans comprised paintings by Albrecht Dürer and Rembrandt Harmenszoon van Rijn, sculptures by Peter Vischer and Peter Flötner, scientific instruments once owned by Regiomontanus, the oldest astrolabe, hailing from the Arabian area, and the oldest existing three-dimensional goldsmiths' work ("Huitzilopochtli") from Central and Southern America.

In 2000, the glass painting "Annunciation" created in 1504/05 after a design by Albrecht Dürer, was the highlight of an exhibition in the J. Paul Getty Museum, Los Angeles.
