Toys since 1945

Over 700 representative objects have been chosen from the immense wealth of toys produced in the past fifty years. They present an opportunity for a reunion with modern "classics" such as Lego bricks, Schuco or Matchbox cars, Barbie dolls, Playmobil figures and the Gameboy.

Effectively staged with state-of-the-art lighting technology, the lively "toy show cases" mirror important social developments. Pocket-size dioramas invite visitors on a journey through the recent past at six time stations.

Information Terminal

A computer-aided terminal provides information on the history of the Nuremberg International Toy Fair, allows a glance at the changes in toy advertising and shows witty advertising clips from the sixties to the nineties. Some of Schuco's fine mechanical figures can be seen in motion here.

"Kids on Top": Activity Area for Children

Children are the most important people in the activity area "Kids on Top"! Since summer 1999, when refurbishing of the house was completed, they have had their very own area on the top floor of the Toy Museum.

A large, artistically designed room invites our small visitors to try out a wealth of group games and games of skill, to experiment with various construction systems in a "Builders' Hut" or to explore a "play relief". They may paint and do handicrafts, try identifying toys by touch in special boxes, end even make the stars rise in the sky.

A trained educator helps the children to use the many varied play possibilities in this area.

The action area on the top floor may be hired for children's birthday parties. You may find further information concerning hire in the section "Hire" on the museum's German website.
